Overview
Private credit has moved from the margins to the mainstream of global capital markets—and recently into the headlines. As banks retrench, interest rates remain higher for longer, and private debt funds step into financing roles once dominated by traditional lenders, the asset class is attracting record inflows alongside growing regulatory and investor scrutiny.

In this session, Hans-Jörg Baumann, Chairman and Founding Partner of StepStone Private Debt, will explore what is really happening beneath the surface. We will discuss why private credit has been one of the fastest‑growing asset classes in recent years, what investors find attractive—from illiquidity premia to covenant control—and how recent headlines on redemptions (liquidity), refinancing risk, defaults, and valuation transparency have sharpened the debate. The conversation will also address the trade‑offs: strong returns versus cyclicality, flexibility versus opacity, and portfolio diversification versus correlation risk in a stressed environment. |
Designed for early‑career professionals across markets, credit and investment roles, this event aims to cut through the noise and provide a balanced, practical perspective on where private credit fits in today’s evolving financial landscape—and what skills and insights matter most for those looking to work with the asset class.
Admission: This in-person event is free to attend and open to employees of ICMA member firms. Register now.
