Date: 25 February 2026
Time: 15:00 - 16:30 CET | Followed by a networking reception
Venue: ICMA, Avenue des Arts 56, 1000 Brussels
The International Capital Market Association (ICMA) was pleased to invite EU and national policymakers, regulators, and the policy community to an exclusive afternoon roundtable discussion session at our Brussels office on "Demystifying securitisation".
With the relevant regulation under review, securitisation is back at the heart of Europe's financial policy debate, yet it remains one of the least well-understood tools in the financial markets toolkit. Still viewed through GFC-era perceptions, it has since evolved into a structurally, behaviourally and regulatorily robust funding tool with robust guardrails.
This roundtable was aimed at those looking to refresh their understanding of securitisation, with speakers offering practical insights that demystify what it is, and is not, explaining its mechanics and highlighting real-world challenges. Speakers explained why securitisation policy matters to the real economy, examined the post-GFC changes and identified persistent non-regulatory barriers that hinder greater accessibility.
The roundtable discussion was led by Katie Kelly, ICMA Market Practice & Regulatory Policy (MPRP), and featured the following speakers:
- Ian Bell, CEO, PCS - Prime Collateralised Securities
- Taggart Davis, Vice President Government Affairs, PGIM
- Jord Van Wingerden, Director Asset Securitisation, Wholesale Banking, ING
- Alex Shopov, Partner, and George Gooderham, Counsel, Linklaters
The roundtable discussion was followed by a reception at 16:30 CET, offering an informal setting to continue discussions with relevant experts, exchange perspectives and explore how market practice and policy - including EU SIU objectives - can support securitisation market growth.
Please note that this event took place in person but that highlights may be released on the ICMA website in due course.
