ICMA is committed to embedding environmentally responsible practices into every aspect of our events calendar, and the 58th ICMA AGM & Conference is no exception.
Location selection: Why London?
As in previous years, we’ve chosen a location that helps us reduce the overall environmental impact of the conference. London is one of Europe’s most accessible cities, offering a range of low-carbon travel options for attendees across the region.
While we recognise that some delegates may arrive by air, we encourage the use of rail and other lower-impact transportation wherever feasible. For those flying, we recommend considering carbon offset options through trusted providers, such as:

Queen Elizabeth II Centre - Conference & Welcome Reception
The QEII Centre undertakes and promotes the highest standards of environmental practice to ensure it is operating as a socially responsible organisation both locally and globally. It recognises that protecting the environment is essential for the future and has a policy and event checklist that increases awareness of sustainability amongst staff, service providers, clients and the local community.
The Centre proactively evaluates and adapts its policies and practices and has acted across all areas of the business to become more sustainable. It has received a Gold accreditation from Greengage Solutions and has been working closely with them on ways in which we can continue to deliver improvements and innovations. This accreditations recognise hotels and conference venues that meet high standards of sustainability.

Natural History Museum – Gala Reception
As advocates for the planet, the Natural History Museum try to think sustainably when making decisions and to operate in a way that’s kind to the environment.
They are looking at ways they can reduce their carbon emissions and energy consumption, reuse and repurpose technology and encourage everyone to refill and recycle.

Reducing event waste
To minimise our environmental footprint, ICMA will not be printing programmes or distributing delegate bags. Instead, all event information will be accessible via the ICMA Conference App and through digital signage throughout the venue.
This year’s ICMA AGM and Conference delegate badges are made from recycled paper and contain tomato seeds. Participants are encouraged to take their badges home and plant them after the event.
